He was born Sep. 23, 1919 in Hillsboro , to Charles and Leona Hammer.On Dec. 29, 1940, he married Maxine Miller at Waukegan, IL. While resident in Milwaukee, Hillsboro, and San Diego, CA he was employed as a cost accountant. In Peoria, Il, he was a Boy Scout executive for two districts in the area.
He was a Navy Veteran, service from Sep. 1940 until Oct. 1945, mainly in the Pacific theater.
After recovering from a stroke in 1975, he was a volunteer in a rest home until Mar. 30, 1984
Memorial services were held in San Diego on Mon. Jan.21, and interment was at Stacyville, IA.
